New $5 fee coming to Fort De Soto

New $5 fee coming to Fort De Soto and Fred Howard parks in Pinellas - St. Petersburg Times

There was no realistic, practical way of avoiding it any more. A fee of five dollars per car will be charged at Fort De Soto Park. Most people will agree that it's still one of the best bargains in Florida. Frequent visitors will be able to get a $75 annual pass, and people on foot and bicycles won't pay a fee. The method of collecting the fee hasn't been decided yet, and it won't be official until Pinellas County officials approve the budget.

  1. I've been going to Ft DeSoto for a very long time. I enjoy the beaches and the fishing spots. As a resident of Pinellas I have paid a lot of taxes for the privelege, 5$ - no way

  3. I have been riding my motorcycle through Ft Desoto to unwind and get away from all the traffic for 30 years. There is no way i will pay $5 to ride through the park. Goodbye Ft. Desoto, you are no longer on my recommended places to visit for the tourists I advise. Really people, $5 to ride my motorcycle through Ft Desoto?? C-mon man!

  4. I have driven from Orlando many times just to allow my dog to run at the edge of the water for 2 hours. No way I am paying $5 to do so. I will go to Davis Island instead. Not only that, my father visits the area and brings his dog 2-3x per day. He will absolutely not pay the fee 2-3x per day for a week. Absolutely ludacris to start charging such a high fee.
